Is YOUR NAME directly related to YOUR PERSONALITY?

A friend gave me this link, and I thought it was strange to see the correlation between my first name, and the list of "virtues" if you will, that are "related" to my name.
Click on the link: http://www.kabalarians.com/index.cfm/cfm/Your.cfm
then type your name, and if you are a male or female, then click analyze. Blog your comments about what is true, or untrue.

I must say, my assessment was right on!!!

The name of Alana creates an easy-going, good-natured personality, meeting and mixing easily.
You appreciate the company of others, to the point that you do not like to be by yourself for very long.
You are gifted with natural expression, both verbal and musical, but you would find it tedious to study music and practice theory.
Anything that involves concentration or just plain hard work, you prefer to avoid as best you can.
Although you have many creative, original ideas, procrastination is your worst enemy because you can seldom make decisions and carry them out.
The name Alana creates the urge to be self-expressive and happy, but we point out that it causes procrastination and lack of confidence, and thus you are unable to realize your goals and ambitions
Hmmmm.....HOW DID THEY KNOW THAT???!!!
However...after investigating "Kabalarian Philosophy", I was interested to read the background of their belief system.

Canadian Kabalarians have a full-blown scandal on their hands. The Nelson Daily News of September 18th, 1997 reported of their leader, Ivon Shearing,
-Shearing, 65, is charged with sexually exploiting 11 of his female followers during his leadership. He faces 20 criminal counts, including indecent assault, sexual assault, gross indecency and having sexual intercourse with a girl under the age of 14.
The article went on to say, -Kabalarian philosophy is said to promote individualism and challenges its members to think for themselves. Obviously, taking advantage of young, naive girls, is outside of the stated philosophies of the Kabalarians. According to a second article under date of September 19th, 1997, one of his victims reported that he told her he was interested in "developing her" as an assistant in special spiritual roles within the organization.
The headline reported that the young woman "...thought she was being cleansed by sexual conduct" and was told "...not to discuss the "special occurrence" with anyone."
The Kabalarian Society is reported to have 1,500 members in Canada, and more worldwide.

Who are the Kabalarians, and what do they believe? The Kabalarian Courier (undated) tells the history of their first leader. The founder of the Kabalarian Philosophy was a young auto mechanic who forsook his strict, Church of England upbringing for Eastern philosophies. He became adept at Yoga, and finally met a visiting swami from India, who gave him the -key "to the -truths for which he had been seeking". His small handful of listeners grew into an impressive group who built a large facility in Vancouver, BC. Most people became aware that their friends have become Kabalarians when they suddenly change their legal name and a notice appears in the paper. This is done so the letters of their name add up to a favorable mathematical number approved of by the Kabalarians. Mathematics are considered a "sacred principle". Their publication, "Kabalarian Philosophy" states on page 12,
"...There are invisible forces, spiritual qualities, behind each letter and each number and your name...",

Excuse for a hug needed??

TO THE ONLY PERSON THAT READS MY BLOG: dr Marco--did you know that today (January 21st) is National Hug Day?? What a great day! This is an opportunity to give and to receive. Give a hug, and you automatically receive one in return. Sure, someone might not hug back. But, how often does that happen!?! Hugs are loving. Hugs are therapeutic (hug therapy anyone??!!). Hugs are caring. Hugs are celebratory. Hugs make you feel good and all gushy inside. Have you ever received a hug from someone who didn't care? I didn't think so. That's proof positive that you're loved and cared about. Celebrate today by giving hugs to family, friends and loved ones. You'll love the warm feeling you get. ....nice!!

Hey, I hugged my patients today. What ya think about that??? Wanna send a hug out to ya. BBBiiiiigggg HHHhhhhuuuuugggg!

Freud Would Have Ovary Envy in a Woman's World.

First, I must start this blog by explaining that I absolutely love men! I'm not lesbian, and I do shave my legs! I'm a female advocate, and my goal is about women recognizing and reclaiming power that has been stolen from them.
To begin the wonderous journey of discovery to the wild and intutive self, it is a gift and a new journey to uncovering the jewel within. O, awaken and empower this wild woman within that society wants to repress. Some of us, perhaps most of us, will continue to play the various roles we have learned to play in order to survive the various situations we find ourselves in. But some of us do believe in our own power and believe that power embodies both the choices we make and the responsibility we accept for the consequences of those choices.
Jung once said that "when the diagnosis is correct the healing can begin." Many times, we need self reflection to make a self diagnosis. Often time, we require assistance from trained professionals. Nonetheless, we don't have to stay miserable our entire lives. We can breath on the fire of self exploration and intuition and explode with wisdom and happiness! The choice is ours.

" ...the one that I feed".

In Honor of My Great Man, Mr. Monkey :)

As a woman, I'm honored to love, care and respect the man in my life. I'm proud of my role as a mother and someday a wife. Our attitudes have the power to make or break a great marriage/relationship! Here are a few secrets of what we women can do to make them know that they ARE #1~~

1. Remind him daily that he is the reason for your happiness!!! "Men love a happy woman...much less knowing that they are the source of their happiness!"
2. Always treat him as the most important part of our lives.
3. Give him direct communication, love, respect, appreciation, food (...and he'll do anything that you wish for...foolish, or not!)
4. Act like a Bi*ch, and you will be treated like a Bi*ch

Remember this: Men come from women! They are simple creatures who are nurtured and brought up by a woman--and they yearn for the continued love, admiration and approval from a woman. It makes them vulnerable to their woman's moods, desires, tantrums, criticism, disappointments, dissatisfactions, angers, and rejections.
So--as women: lets better appreciate the magnitude of our power and influence over men, and not misuse or abuse it. In turn, by giving these things to our men--we will be happier!

The Masks We Wear

In ancient Greece different masks represented the many emotions displayed by actors in drama, such as rage, anger or grief. THose masks had a metallic mouthpiece through which the voice of the actor resonated. Later on, the Romans called the mask per sonare, meaning "to sound through". This Latin term is the root of our word persona, meaning both the role that an actor plays and the public image that we display in society.

When the custom of masked balls became fashionable in society, the mask helped conceal one's identity until the end of the ball. The participants fantasized about their partner's identity and delighted in its mystery. In the meantime, the masked figure felt anonymity or concealment
behind its facade. The purpose of the mask therefore was to conceal the true personality, as on "really is". We do much the same in our everyday life when we try to conceal our true feeling, or who we really are.

What is it exactly that we are trying hard to hide? Is it the vulnerable person inside of us? Is it the person we want to protect, or the person we do not want to reveal? Perhaps we hide our feelings to protect them from further injury and rejection? Or is it that we are Ancient Greeks on a stage entertaining others? Me...being the histrionic person that I am...well....I'm just having a blast entertaining :)

...Why Semper Mea Culpa as the title of my BLOG? First, Mea Culpa is a Latin phrase that translates into English as "my fault", or "my own fault". In order to emphasize the message, the adjective "maxima" may be inserted, resulting in "mea maxima culpa", which would translate as "my [most] grievous fault".
The origin of the expression is in a part of the Catholic Mass known as Confiteor (Latin for "I confess"), in which the individual recognizes his or her flaws before God. I openly admit that I am a flawed human. As I confess my humanity before the Mighty One, I pray that he will bless me with wisdom:

Amen.

This translates into English as:
I confess to Almighty God,to blessed Mary ever Virgin,to blessed Michael, the Archangel,to blessed John the Baptist,to the holy Apostles Peter and Paul,to all the Saints and to you, Father, that I have sinned exceedingly,in thought, word and deed, through my fault, through my fault, through my most grievous fault. Therefore I beseech the blessed Mary, ever Virgin, blessed Michael the Archangel, blessed John the Baptist, the holy Apostles Peter and Paul, all the Saints, and you, Father,to pray to the Lord our God for me.Amen.

Taking the Road Less Traveled

Early yesterday morning, my kiddies were laying in bed with me talking, giggling, hugging. It dawned on me, that my children are genuinely happy! I'm a single mother for 4 years, and my biggest fear has been that I've robbed them of stability, happiness, attention. Single parents have a difficult road up ahead, but often times the children get lost in the shuffle. Some of the times the children pay for the divorce and it is obvious in their demeanor, and behavior.
Kids raised by single parents can face some difficult odds, but I would like to reinforce the fact that some children are way better off being with one, level-headed, loving parent and may be preferable to an unsalvageable marriage.
I was married for 6 years to an emotional and physically abusive man. Why six years? I endured the abuse in part because I believed deeply that the two-parent family was best for my two children, Maddy and David. Knowing that it was possible, despite the odds, to be a successful single parent, I left my abusive husband.
Once I was on my own, I decided to make my children the central focus of my life. Now, I would like to divert your attention to a dad named Kenneth. Kenny is one of my friends who is a single dad. Kenny inspires me daily with the stories of the relationship he holds with his son. He has become best friends with his son!! They wear matching outfits; take monthly : )vacations and Kenny even sews his son's boyscout patches on his uniform!
I asked my kids..."has it been hard for you guys after the divorce?" They thought for a little while, and then said with a smile "No, not at all!!!"
Single parents are heroes. They're heroes in the classic sense, in that the good ones are on a journey not only for themselves but for someone beyond them.

Semper Mea Culpa

Semper Mea Culpa

Past mistakes...Current Anxiety Attack!!! Until now...?

When the anxiety of life is so thick that my very thoughts cause feeling of suffocation; I sit quietly and wonder why I am feeling this way. I realize that I am paralyzed by fear of making mistakes.
Well, what shall I do? - Educate myself, of course! Here are some thoughts to enlighten and start the year 2006 off on a good note. Here are 5 gold nuggets that I am throwing around in my head.

1. Successful people make more mistakes, but they are successful because they try more things. Sooner or later they get something right. They don't win every time, but they end up winners simply because they don't give up.
2. Success is partly a mind-set; the person who can't be worn down by failures can't be brought down by any other cause. Almost every successful person became successful because they kept trying.
3. Consider every mistake you do make as an asset.
4. An error doesn't become a mistake until you refuse to correct it.
5. If you are too careful you are so occupied in being careful that you are sure to stumble over something.

So, I will meditate today- take some deep breaths and focus on the serenity of imperfection~Alana
